CLIENT: Confucius Institute, University Of Newcastle



Newcastle China Week engaged the minds and hearts of 30,000+ local community and business members through a programme of educational, cultural and trade events, each paying homage to the strength of Australia’s partnership with China.

The week included a Noodle Night Market and Outdoor Cinema, bringing food trucks, a communal dining hall, giant inflatables and movie screen to Hamilton’s Gregson Park; a contemporary Chinese Film Festival at Newcastle’s Tower Cinemas running over three nights; Business Forum featuring local and national industry specialists; and, Pop-Up Chinatown Street Festival, concluding the week with a colourful and vibrant Shanghai-inspired marketplace on Beaumont Street. The finale event featured a mix of traditional and contemporary performances, food stalls and interactive cultural activities.

As the 2016 Event Manager, I was tasked with improving elements of the previous event program and successfully tripled attendance at the Noodle Night Markets and brought the spectacle of Jin Wu Kwoon to Newcastle for the first time.

Reporting to the University of Newcastle Confucius Institute, I was responsible for:

× Creative direction

× Event planning, timeline and budgeting for four separate events

× Developing strategic alliances and partnerships

× Program curation

× Management of design collateral and website content

× Public Relations

× Advertising and Marketing

× Council and major stakeholder liaison

× Appointment and management of suppliers, contractors and volunteers

× Execution of Events
