Marketing, Events & Creative Strategies

CULTIVATING CULTURE & COMMUNITY

I develop marketing strategies, run events and provide consultation to creative innovators, cultural activists and community-oriented causes. My mission is simple. I seek to activate the ideas of groups and individuals to foster a sense of place, connection, meaning and belonging. I do this through publicity, events, advertising, branding, digital media and other targeted marketing and communication activities.

I am an advocate for the value of creativity; with it comes empathy, inspiration and ultimately, change.

Placemaking: Inspiration from afar

REMIX Global Summits tackle the big ideas shaping the future of the arts, the creative economy and creative cities. Designed as a forum where creative leaders from different sectors can exchange insights, ideas and work together towards common goals, the Asia Pacific chapter, held in Sydney in June of this year, delivered on its promise. Speakers for 2015 included Twitter, Virgin, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Etsy, Yahoo!7, MCA, Cooper-Hewitt Smithsonian, Intel, Australian Museum, The Guardian, Google, ACMI, Foxtel, Westfield and Blippar, however the audience members were just as inspiring.

Finding your tribe: TDKTuesdays Talk

#TDKTuesdays are a fortnightly design meet-up over beers in cities around the country, creating a laid back environment for design students and grads to meet other like-minded creatives. Newcastle chapter host Sean Bell invited me to present at speech at The Roost, sharing my experiences in the creative industries. Here’s a transcript of my speech from the night.

Working with Bec to realise the 2015 This is Not Art Festival was an absolute dream.

Despite very limited resources, a tiny team and a high pressure environment, Bec delivered high quality, engaging and creative marketing and communications. She really went above and beyond, managing everything from high-level strategic planning around fundraising and sponsorship, and the development of a new website and app, to on-the-ground festival logistics.

Thanks to Bec the festival saw its best attendances yet, a huge increase in media coverage and visibility, a complete re-brand, and a promising start to a new sponsorship program. As Executive Producer of the festival I couldn’t have asked for more.

I’ve been at The Roost since 2013 have seen dramatic changes occur since Bec became manager in 2015.

The professionalism and organisation of The Roost has improved so much and this has flowed on to an overall improvement in the vibe and day-to-day productivity. This has attracted many new members, the most we’ve ever had.

Under Bec’s management, The Roost is now an inspiring and positive place to work with a great culture and strong sense of community.

Bec has served on the HYP board for three years and has been instrumental in helping to deliver our current three year strategy.

This strategy mainly focussed on the repurposing and redevelopment and rebranding of HYP (formerly known as Newcastle and Hunter Junior Chamber). This project involved a complete overhaul which Bec led from start to finish. Bec is also our go to marketing guru on the board, she is a creative thinker and marketer and understands what our target market’s needs and wants are.

Over the past few years, Bec has also led some of our key events which have been sold out at premier venues that she has secured with her strong networks in Newcastle and the Hunter region.

Adel Issa, President, Hunter Young Professionals (2013-2015)
